Two Distinctions of NTUA in the Europa Nostra Awards to Greece: the Plaka Bridge and a Doctoral research in the School of Architecture

The European Commission and Europa Nostra of the European Heritage Awards / Europa Nostra Awards, the EU prize for the cultural heritage funded by the Creative Europe program. This year, the top distinction of the heritage section is awarded to 24 examples from 18 European countries, one of which at the Maintenance Category concerns the work of restoring the historic bridge of Plaka at Epirus, Greece. This award is very honorable and important distinction, not only for the National Technical University of Athens, which was deeply involved in the project, but also for all those who worked hard and cooperated to make this possible – the Ministry of Culture, the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, the Region of Epirus, the North Tzoumerka Municipality and the Technical Chamber of Greece.

 

The research project “Control Shift”, focusing on the practice of Industrial Heritage Reuse in Europe, won a Europa Nostra Award of the year 2021 in the Research Category.  The research project was conducted by Dora Chatzi-Rodopoulou in the framework of a PhD program in the Heritage & Architecture group, AE+T, TU Delft, and the Urban Environment Laboratory, School of Architecture of the National Technical University of Athens under the supervision of Prof. N. Belavilas. The project was funded by a four-year scholarship awarded by the Onassis Foundation. Further funds were provided by the British School at Athens, the Stichting Fonds Catharine van Tussenbroek and the EU Erasmus+ program.
