The National Technical University of Athens, School of Electrical and Computer Engineering, honored Ronald W. Schafer, Professor of Georgia Tech (Emeritus) and of Stanford University (Adjunct) with the title of Doctor Honoris Causa, in recognition of his pioneering contributions to education and research and the corresponding international reputation of his scientific work.

Prof. Schafer has been one of the pioneers who co-founded digital signal processing, advanced its applications to computer speech and language technology worldwide, and supported its applications to other fields as well. Further, he has been a distinguished Scholar and highly regarded university educator in the IEEE and other scientific societies.
