Visit of the Ambassador of France to Greece to the Lavrion Technological and Cultural Park of the National Technical University of Athens

On Thursday, March 6, the Rector of NTUA, Professor Ioannis K. Hadjigeorgiou, welcomed the Ambassador of France to Greece, Ms. Laurence Auer, and her associates to the Technological and Cultural Park of Lavrion, on a scheduled visit. The Ambassador and her colleagues were also welcomed by Vice President responsible for NTUA Asset Management and Development, member of the Board of Directors, Professor Dimitris Kaliampakos,  Scientific Director of the Museum of Mining, Metallurgy and Historical Archives, Professor Nikos Belavilas, Mr. Asimakis Hadoumellis, Director of the Lavrion Technological and Cultural Park and Dr. Maria Vardaki, Executive Director of the NTUA

 

The Ambassador was accompanied by Dr. Mathieu Abgrall, Attaché for Scientific and University Cooperation and Deputy Director of the French Institute of Greece , Ms. Katerina Spyropoulou, Deputy of the same department and of the FIG, and Mr. Christian Fatras, Deputy Head of the Regional Economic Service of four countries.

 

The Rector of NTUA, after making an introduction about NTUA and the Park, gave the floor to Mr. Kaliambakos who presented the history of the Park, its modern operations and its future prospects. The Ambassador and her associates were given a tour of the Park's premises, were taken through the ongoing project of the Lavrio Mining and Metallurgy Museum and the renovated facilities of the former French Mining Complex “French Company of Lavrio Mines”. They also saw excerpts of rare historical archives that will be exhibited there and visited the historical Power Station that will be renovated to host the “DAEDALUS” Supercomputer of the National Network of Technology and Research.

 

The Ambassador and her colleagues expressed their enthusiasm for this visit, which we hope will be a catalyst for cooperation on new scientific and cultural prospects for both countries in the direction of further strengthening the excellent relations between Greece and France.
