Conference entitled: Greek Startup Success Stories and the Inspiring Journeys of their Founders

The conference "Greek Startup Success Stories and the Inspiring Journeys of their Founders", organized by the newly established Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship of the National Technical University of Athens on Tuesday, April 8, 2025, took place at the Grand Amphitheater of the Lampadario building of the School of Rural , Surveying and Geoinformatics Engineering of NTUA and was completed with great success.

 

The event aimed to inspire NTUA students and researchers, as well as the general public, about innovation and entrepreneurship, through interactive speeches, personal narratives and discussions with an emphasis on the prospects and challenges in the Greek startup ecosystem.

 

Greetings were delivered by the Rector of NTUA, Professor Ioannis K. Hadjigeorgiou, and Mr. Efstratios Simopoulos, Member of the Hellenic Parliament and Chairman of the Special Standing Committee on Research and Technology of the Hellenic Parliament, underlining the importance of connecting the academic community with entrepreneurship, innovation and the market.

 

The conference was kicked off by Vice-Rector for Research, Innovation and Outreach of NTUA, Professor Emmanuel Varvarigos, with a presentation of the accomplishments of the NTUA Innovation and Entrepreneurship Center. This was followed by a historical review and mapping of the Greek startup ecosystem by Mr. Michalis Dritsas, executive of the Ministry of National Economy and Finance, former CEO of Elevate Greece S.A. and author of the book “Startups: From A to Exit”.

 

Moving on, different sections and open discussions were presented where NTUA graduates and professors as well as distinguished executives in the field, shared their personal journey from research to professional success and spoke about the challenge of securing funding for Greek startups, advising on how founders can attract investment interest, avoid common mistakes and prepare for the next stages of their business journey.The last section focused on the mechanisms for maturing innovative ideas, with speakers highlighting the particularly important support that start-ups can receive through major innovation competitions and entrepreneurship accelerators.
